Chamber honors Anco with 2010 Eartha award

L-R: Steve Jacobson, Beth Hill and Leah Thwing
October 15, 2010 - October 14, 2010 - The Greater Elkhart Chamber Environmental Council Co-Chairs presented the Eartha award to Anco Products, Inc., on October 7, at the 2010 Environmental and Safety Conference.

The Environmental Council Co-Chairs presenting this year's Eartha award were Steve Jacobson from Manchester Tank and Beth Hill from Bruce Carter Associates. Both Jacobson and Hill are highly informed of environmental regulatory practices.

When choosing the recipient for this year's Eartha award, the Chamber considered companies that have made sustainable practice transitions, and companies that made great strides in environmental stewardship.

Sharing a sustainability success story is something Anco President, Andy McCleery, has been invited to do for numerous events in the last six months.

"As our sustainability initiatives have taken hold over the past few years, we have looked to take a leadership role in the community by giving presentations and sharing the successes and failures with other businesses looking for ways to begin," McCleery said. "We also recently joined the Sustainability Coalition (www.thesustainabilitycoalition.com) as an additional way to collaborate with regional business leaders."

Compliance Manager, Leah Thwing, accepted this year's Eartha award on behalf of Anco. Thwing has a personal and professional passion for sustainability that makes her a perfect fit to oversee the planning and implementation of the sustainable processes incorporated into Anco's business practices.

"I'm very proud of all of the hard work everyone has done at Anco toward sustainability," Thwing said. "We still have a lot of work to do but it's nice to be recognized for our efforts."

The company has set many sustainability goals to be accomplished this year. These types of goals have been adapted into yearly business planning since 2007. Anco uses an annual Sustainability Report to express how the goals and plans manifest into accomplishments.
